3 Core Components

What Makes Get Well Behavioral Health Different

If you have received outpatient therapy or counseling before, you will likely find that our approach to mental health care is different than what you are used to. Get Well Behavioral Health was founded with the intention of ‘breaking the mold’ of some of the staid, old conventional methods of outpatient mental health treatment.

Change Brings Results

We believe that it’s time for change. We’re not afraid to discard some of the treatment approaches from the past that consistently fell short of the mark. Where an approach is proven effective and has yet to be surpassed—we retain it. In our view outpatient therapy should do much more than just provide momentary relief.

Effective holistic psychotherapy goes beyond simply easing your mind. It guides you on a journey of self-discovery and helps you become your best self. When you receive treatment at Get Well Behavioral Health, you will find more than just relief. You will find answers about yourself and tools to help you learn and grow stronger.

Our holistic mental health treatment model

  • Addresses all 3 facets of the human experience (mind, body, and spirit)
  • Applies the best of the current evidence-based psychotherapy methods.
  • Incorporates experiential modalities for deeper learning and application.
  • Empowers people to take control of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
  • Creates a fertile ground for continued learning and personal growth.

The 3 Core Components of Our Approach

Treatment at our Los Angeles outpatient mental health clinic is based on a holistic care model with three core components. Within each component, there are a number of therapeutic methods in practice. Treatment at Get Well Behavioral Health is highly individualized, so no two treatment plans look exactly alike.

The 3 Core Components of care are:

  • Skill Building

  • Processing

  • Experiential Healing

How Skill Building Improves Mental Health and Wellness

At Get Well Behavioral Health, our ultimate goal is to empower the people we help to grow and reach their personal and professional goals. One of the ways we do this is through skill building. Skill building in mental health treatment refers to the process of teaching specific strategies and techniques to manage symptoms, cope with stress, and improve overall functioning. Skill building is an important part of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based practices such as DBT and MBSR (Mindful Stress Based Reduction).

Some of the skills we help people build include:

Stress Management: Developing effective methods for managing your life or work stress is essential. We teach skills that will promote mindfulness and decrease stress reactions.

Emotion Regulation: Learning how to manage your emotions and prevent them from adversely affecting decisions or behavior is a critical skill to be developed.

Neurofeedback: Neurofeedback focuses on the central nervous system and the brain to improve neuro regulation and stabilization. Regular training sessions help regulate the workings of the brain so it functions in a healthier way.

Interpersonal Relations: Even if you are already an effective communicator, there is always room for growth in how you speak to and interact with others.

Problem-Solving: People who are effective problem-solvers in business often find their skills don’t always translate to other areas. We’ll help you develop problem-solving skills for relationships and everyday life.

The Role of Processing in Mental Health Therapy

Developing your processing abilities in a mental health treatment context involves exploring and making sense of thoughts, feelings, and experiences — especially those that are distressing or traumatic. This therapeutic technique allows you to reflect on their experiences in a safe and supportive environment, understand the impact of these experiences on your current mental health, and work through any unresolved emotions or conflicts.

Processing at Get Well Behavioral Health may include:

Talk Therapy: Using conversation with a trained therapist to work through experiences and emotions to better understand and frame them.

EMDR Therapy: EMDR is one of the most effective, evidence-based treatments for PTSD and anxiety. It is an excellent tool for processing trauma.

IFS Therapy: IFS helps individuals understand and process the complex network of parts that make up our internal mental system.IFS is based on the premise that we all have different aspects or parts of personality sometimes with conflicting emotions and experiences.

Somatic Experiencing Therapy: Somatic Experiencing (SE) Therapy is a body-oriented mental health therapy method designed to relieve the symptoms of trauma and other stress disorders. SE Therapy helps you develop resilience and process your trauma through body awareness, titration, pendulation, discharge, and resource building.

Brainspotting: Brainspotting therapy is an innovative technique that uses spots in the visual field to help access unprocessed trauma. Research shows that where we look affects how we feel. By identifying particular “brainspots,” the therapist helps the client process and release emotional/body pain, trauma, and a variety of other challenging symptoms.

Grief Counseling: Grief and loss are a part of the human experience for us all. Being able to process through the 5 stages of grief is essential for moving forward.

Experiential Healing: Growth Through Action

Experiential healing is a unique therapeutic approach in outpatient mental health care. Where talk therapy engages the logical side of the mind — Experiential healing engages the body and emotions. It uses exercises that promote reflection and help us apply concepts we have learned. Experiential healing focuses on present-moment experiences, using them as gateways to understanding and resolving deeper psychological challenges.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): In ACT, the therapist uses experiential exercises and mindfulness strategies to help you connect with the present, accept what you cannot control, and commit to positive action. The ACT process helps you experience thoughts, feelings, memories, and physical sensations—without necessarily trying to change them. It’s a great tool for both increasing awareness and understanding and committing to solutions.

Below are some of the other experiential healing therapies we offer:

  • Art Therapy
  • Music Therapy
